The Southern Region Office of Tourism Malaysia organised a dialogue/forum programme; ‘Southern Region Travel Meet Ideas, Aspirations, Moving Forward 2023’ as part of its ongoing efforts to revive domestic tourism activities in the wake of the national and global situation affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as political unrest and regional economic instability, all of which have a significant impacts on the forecast of tourist arrivals to Malaysia.

Two travel meet sessions, titled “Ideas Learning & Findings throughout Challenges” and “Aspirations What to Expect & Aspire for 2023,” were included in this programme. Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, Senior Director of Domestic & Events Division (Acting Deputy Director General of Planning) of Tourism Malaysia and Edey Suresh, Board Member and Johor State Director for the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) were part of the six panellists for the dialogue sessions.

“This programme serves as a platform to foster dialogic interaction with delivery methods and channels of ideas and information between all parties in the southern tourism industry,” said Tourism Malaysia Southern Region in a statement.

“It is initially expected that this platform will have a positive impact and contribute to cumulative development in line with the objective of increasing the number of domestic and international tourist arrivals.”

Especially from the perspective of the local industry, a dialogue session with 150 participants, including tourism product owners, hotel operators, travel agencies, tour guides, students from higher education institutions and representatives of state and federal government agencies and media partners; is a helpful medium for the generation of tourism procedures and ethics. It also provides a platform for participants to offer innovative solutions to problems.
