Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri (YPIP), in collaboration with EduCity Iskandar, introduces Baca L.A.B. (Literasi Alaf Baru) an intervention programme to increase the literacy rate for primary school students who dropped out due to the effects of the pandemic, especially the B40 group in rural areas.

Officiated by Datuk Haji Mohammad Khairi bin A. Malik, as Chairman of the Iskandar Puteri Charity Foundation and represented by Prof. Dr Sakina Sofia Baharom, as the Operations Director of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd, this ceremony took place at the Iskandar Puteri Caring Foundation Seminar Hall, Wisma MBIP.

The main objective of the Baca L.A.B. programme is it’s an intervention programme aimed at helping students who have not yet mastered reading and writing skills in Malay. This intensive programme also helps to increase the literacy rate of primary school students and provides access to quality training for students among B40 families around the city of Iskandar Puteri.

This programme hopes to help forty (40) primary school students, which will take place from 4th November 2022 to 28th January 2023 and will be located in the Multipurpose Room of Surau Nurhidayah, Perumahan Lima Kedai and Balai Raya Pangsapuri Jentayu, Pulai, with the support of four (4 ) tutors throughout the programme.

Datuk Haji Mohammad Khairi A. Malik, Chairman of Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri gave positive comments during his speech about the first collaboration between EduCity and YPIP that will last for three (3) months.

“YPIP is always sensitive to the demands of the Iskandar Puteri community, especially in the field of human capital development where education and youth are the main focus for every programme introduced.

The city of Iskandar Puteri will grow rapidly and offer quality job opportunities for Johor citizens. We hope that by preparing our students with basic skills, we will be able to give them a brighter chance to seize the job opportunity,” he said in his opening speech.

“This programme was introduced as an intervention initiative to help students who dropped out of school, especially primary school students who are weak in reading and commanding the Malay language. By introducing intervention programmes such as Baca L.A.B., we hope that they can master other subjects more effectively and foster the practice of reading at an early stage. This programme will also provide job opportunities to unemployed graduates to work as L.A.B programme tutors, and make this literacy programme a sustainable ecosystem in contributing to the improvement of the education of students and youth,” said Prof Dr Sakina Sofia Baharom during the opening ceremony.
