EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EduCity) announced an MOU Document Handover Ceremony to formalise collaboration with the world-renowned hospitality brand and now one of the Authorised Industry Partner, Ascott Malaysia (Ascott) for PERANTIS Iskandar programme.
The first collaboration between EduCity and Ascott will see the first batch of twenty (20) selected Johor’s unemployed youth to be part of the training programme, with an outcome of confirmed employment within the hospitality industry. The represented by Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager of Ascott Malaysia and Prof Dr Sakina Sofia Baharom, Director of Operations, EduCity Iskandar and witnessed by Dr Azlan Abd Jalil, Deputy Director of Tourism Johor was held at EduCity Complex 1.
“We are positive that through this collaboration, we would have the right talents that will support our hotels here in Johor as Ascott continue to expand our footprint in this market despite the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of CapitaLand, Asia’s largest diversified real estate group, we have established operations and businesses in countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific,” said Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager of Ascott Malaysia at the document handover ceremony.
“We are an international company with employees from all around the world, and we embrace diversity and inclusivity regardless of gender, race, culture, nationality and family status. One of our key focus areas is to develop competency in diversity management in our global talent base. Through our international recruitment and development programmes, we are developing more local talents to lead our businesses in our overseas locations, and this is where we look forward to working with our first batch of students from the PERANTIS Iskandar programme and hope that it will continue from this,” he added.
“When we announced the programme at the end of 2021, through the support of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and funding from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), we did not think the programme has grown to this extent with the support of our Industry and Training Partners who believe in the same principles as we do that it is essential that we support the country’s effort to ensure our youth are employed in the RIGHT INDUSTRIES with the RIGHT SALARY.” Professor Dr Sakina Sofia Baharom, EduCity’s Director of Operations supported Mecja’s statement in her welcoming remarks.
“The programme now has expanded to Creative, Engineering, Oil & Gas, Data Analytics, Drone & Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Assisted Living, Education and, of course, Hospitality. Today’s collaboration with an international brand name, Ascott, has proven that we are on the right track to continue our effort to empower our youth to become quality talents that are highly employable for the industry. We hope to continue filling in the gaps to lower the unemployment rate for both state and the country. Perhaps the PERANTIS’ship model can span its wing to the global industry partner,” she added.
The PERANTIS Iskandar programme’s objectives are to produce skilled talent for employment and Gig – Economy, enhance the Iskandar regional economic development via human capital development and address the unemployment issues, guided by the vision to FAST FORWARD YOUR CAREER.
