Toyota Calls for Young Champions of Mobility

Now open for registration for secondary school students, the Toyota Eco Youth programme “Championing Mobility 2022/2023” kicks off nationwide

Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) programme is back and open for registration with its new theme, “Championing Mobility.” The TEY sustainability programme is designed with the objective of cultivating good habits and practices in environmental preservation among the younger generation.

The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) unites with UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) alongside MAD Movement (formerly known as Leaderonomics Community) as the appointed youth agency to launch the state and national competition.

“UMW Toyota Motor is working towards achieving Zero CO2 Emissions by 2050 as part of a sustainable future for conscious mind generations.  The Toyota Eco Youth programme is a great example of achieving this goal,” said Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor.

“Further, to create value in our initiatives for the environment, we seek to educate and instil love as well as a sense of care for the environment in the nation’s youth.”

The TEY 2022/2023 theme of “Championing Mobility” marks Toyota’s continuous commitment to paving the way forward as a mobility company that supports the creation of more independent, safe, and eco-friendly mobility solutions.

“Our aim is to continuously motivate students to seek green-inspired solutions and increase the positive impact for society in line with Toyota Global Vision. As they say ‘Green is the new Gold’, and with added knowledge on sustainability, society will be able to reap more benefits ecologically”, added Ravindran.

“Through Toyota Eco Youth programme, UMW Toyota Motor aims to provide support and with the rise of tech savviness amongst the youth and more advancement in the field, and this programme will be sustainable for many years to come,” he continued.

The TEY programme first began in 2001 as a major component of the environmental pillar under UMWT’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility programme and in 2002 the ‘Toyota Problem Solving’ approach was introduced. In 2021, a brand new TEY programme was launched incorporating a fully virtual programme to cope with the restrictions of COVID-19.

This year, registration is open till 14th October 2022 at the Toyota Eco Youth website. The programme is open to all secondary school students aged 13 – 17 years old with no limitations to school participation. It will be held in both physical and virtual formats, inclusive of training and ceremonial events.

The top 16 teams will undergo comprehensive training in the form of interactive e‐learning using the Learning Management System and Intensive Prototype Development known as ‘TEY Makerspace Facilities’ at the Prototype Centre Me.reka in Publika. In addition, students will be equipped with a comprehensive media training tips guide.

Participants of TEY will stand a chance to win a cash prize pool of up to RM71,500. Since the commencement of the TEY programme, there have been a total of 274 schools involved, comprising close to 3,000 students, principals and teachers. Since its inception, UMWT has spent over RM7 million to organise this programme.
