According to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, several projects in Mersing District under the jurisdiction of the East Coast Economic Regional Development Council (ECERDC) have been completed.

Among the projects that have been completed are Tanjung Penyabong Waterfront, Mersing Harbour Centre, Endau Grilled Field, Johor Endau-Rompin National Park, upgrading the road from Sungai Emas to Kampung Peta (Northern Package) and tourism in the Mersing archipelago, namely Pulau Besar, Pulau Sibu, Pulau Tinggi and Pulau Aur.

He said among other developments that can be looked forward to in the district are the Endau-Mersing Fish Processing Park, the Jemaluang Dairy Valley and Kampung-stay Air Papan tourism in Teluk Buih.

“I had the opportunity to attend the ECERDC in Kelantan chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. I also thank the PM and members of the meeting following the inclusion of Segamat District as another area under the jurisdiction of ECERDC. Hopefully, the people of Segamat will be able to enjoy more projects and development programmes like in Mersing,” said Onn Hafiz through a message on his Facebook page.

According to the same post, the event also witnessed the exchange of agreement documents between ECERDC and Yayasan Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) as well as the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ECERDC and the Medical Devices Authority (MDA).

Also present were Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, Terengganu MB, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Pahang MB Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and ECERDC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat.

ECERDC is a statutory body established to lead the implementation of ECER covering Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Mersing Districts in Johor.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the government has agreed to continue implementing four projects on Peninsular Malaysia’s east coast, including the Segamat and Mersing districts in Johor.

He stated that all of the projects were decided upon at the ECERDC meeting, which was held at the Kelantan State Secretary’s Office in Kota Baru.

“..The government also agreed to the extension of the Kuantan-Segamat Highway involving the route from Runchang to Simpang 3 Keratong over 51km.”

Ismail Sabri went on to say that the government has always been fair to all states when it comes to development.

“I appreciate the efforts of ECERDC in leading national economic recovery initiatives in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) through the implementation of various development programmes on human capital, strategic projects, and attracting new investments.

“The efforts had succeeded in stimulating economic activities in ECER and added value to the prosperity of Keluarga Malaysia,” he said and added that the programmes implemented in ECER targeting B40, unemployed and the Orang Asli communities have attained impressive success.

He stated that, in light of current developments and the ECER 2.0 Master Plan, which will expire in 2025, ECERDC should conduct a study of the ECER 3.0 Master Plan in order to develop a socioeconomic implementation plan through 2030.

“I understand this will be discussed further, later,” he stated.
