According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the Malaysian Drone Technology Action Plan 2022-2030 (MDTAP30) will be developed as a national agenda to support the drone ecosystem.
He stated that these were among the decisions that were made at the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IRN), which he headed and was attended by ministers, heads of departments and agencies involved.
“The Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) will be the coordinating agency and secretariat of MDTAP30 which will submit progress reports to Emerging Technology Clusters,” he said in a statement.
Ismail Sabri has addressed the Traffic Management for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS-TM) that will be developed in order to improve the efficiency of the Drone Operator Registration Process and increase UAS registration by 2030.
Furthermore, the meeting took note of issues raised by industry players, such as bureaucracy, which will be investigated as part of efforts to develop the country’s drone industry.
As said by Ismail Sabri, the drone industry in Malaysia has the potential to generate RM50.71 billion in GDP growth and create 100,000 job opportunities by 2030.
Microsoft Malaysia, Cyber Security and Online Fraud Cases
Meanwhile, he stated that the government will strengthen its collaboration with Microsoft Malaysia in the areas of cyber security and online fraud cases in order to support the country’s digital development vision.
The PM said that a comprehensive programme for Keluarga Malaysia (the Malaysian Family) will be implemented, including awareness forums, skills workshops, and technical training for the public and private sectors.
Sharing Economy Committee
The meeting also agreed to establish a Sharing Economy Committee, to be helmed by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, to coordinate initiatives and programmes related to the Sharing Economy at the national level involving the public, private, community and academic sectors.
MED4IRN also agreed to implement strategies related to the development of the Omnibus Act — Public Sector (Data Sharing) Act through the Public Sector Data Sharing Policy (DPDSA) and the National Data Sharing Policy (NDSP) to improve the country’s data sharing ecosystem to be more conducive.
Ismail Sabri said that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will continue to be empowered through digitalisation and an integrated framework in which an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) mechanism will be created to adjudicate and resolve small claims and increase cross-border e-commerce activities.
“The establishment of a one-stop centre will also facilitate access to digitalisation support programmes for SMEs. “In addition, the status of gig economy workers will also be constantly monitored to ensure that this group has adequate financial security and legal protection,” he said.
5G Network Coverage
The PM shared that the 5G network coverage has now reached more than 30% in populated areas with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) aiming for 40% by the end of this year and 80% in populated areas by 2024.
“The government hopes that the digitalisation programme that has been implemented by various ministries and agencies will continue to be improved in an effort to maintain current momentum and further drive the nation’s digitalisation agenda,” he said.
