Mention Desaru and everyone instantly talks about its sandy beaches, balmy weather and lobsters! However, Desaru is more than that especially its township that can offer you more value for your money and have the extras to spend on other activities there. In comes Four Points by Sheraton Desaru, reinventing your travel in the most stylish and comfortable manner as possible.
Located in the middle of Desaru township and just minutes away from tourist attractions and the Desaru beach, this 311 guestrooms hotel can offer you a great staycation or weekend getaway (including long public holidays) with your loved ones. Being under the flagship of Marriott Bonvoy, expect nothing less than quality right from checking-in at its Instagrammable Front Desk at the Lobby that has a wonderful showcase of art and local woven crafts as their backdrop.
As I wanted to experience Four Points’ hospitality with my family, we were hosted in their massive Family room that adorably comes with a tepee tent for the little ones to have fun or sleep in! Soothing to the eye, the room is spacious with more than enough wardrobe space, a balcony to gaze at the sunset, bathroom amenities and coffee/tea making facilities.
After my short tour around the hotel, I was hungry for more and my host Maressa who is the Marcom Manager here whisked me away to the chic Lobby Lounge – another photo-worthy spot to have an Afternoon Tea that is available daily with prior reservations. As I am a sucker for afternoon teas, I could not resist the temptation, and was pleasantly surprised that it comes with our locally brewed Boh Tea. I had a pot of Palas Supreme tea that went very well with the buttery Scones, Smoked Salmon Croissants, Chicken Sliders and Assorted sweet-treats (a special shout-out for the delicious chocolate tartlets)!
With a full stomach it was tempting to take a nap but my son insisted on taking a dip in the salt-induced swimming pool and why not! If that is not your thing, relax on one of the beanbags cosily lining the sides of the pool or soak yourself in the warmth of the sauna room. Little ones who does not want to swim can spend their time playing at the playground on site. I’d like to mention that there is also a games room that has Foosball and PSP for the older children (prior reservations required).
With all the swimming and short resting done, the tummy was rumbling! We are on a holiday after all – so off we went to the all-day dining, The Mesh Restaurant that has an indoor and outdoor seating area. It was windy that night and we opted to dine outside overlooking the pool and swaying coconut trees.
Not intending to explode our stomachs, we had the Seafood Grills good for sharing that comes with an assortment of seafood galore such as the grilled Salmon (subject to season), Snapper/Seabass, Flat head Lobsters, giant River Freshwater Prawns and Cheesy Mussels with a side of sauces and Sautéed Asparagus and Charred Kailan. Pair this great meal with a selection of Nitro coffees or refreshing Virgin Tangerine Colada Mocktail or Virgin Passionfruit Mojito. For the adventure-seekers, get your hands on a fun Tiki glass of K & B Affogato Nitro!
Take a walk around Desaru town that has various shops before sleeping like a baby on the cottony soft pillows and comfortable bed.
The next morning, swimming was back on the agenda, followed by a sumptuous local and continental buffet breakfast at The Mesh. Pile up on some freshly made waffles and pancakes or indulge in local favourites like Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng, Assorted Paus and Noodles.
Now, for those who have come all the way to Desaru and miss the feeling of soft sand on your toes, Four Points have got your back through Marriott’s sister property – The Westin Desaru Coast. Simply take the complimentary shuttle service from the concierge and off you go to The Westin for some beach fun. At Westin, towels, shower and changing rooms are available next to the Beach Bar so you do not have to worry about anything except for having fun. (*Update: Kindly take note that the shuttle no longer brings guests to the Westin Hotel, but to the Desaru Public Beach instead).
If you’d like to have more thrill, book Four Points’ Splash and Bash package that has a complimentary shuttle service to the Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast including two entrance tickets plus a one (1) night stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Desaru. After splashing in the waves, our shuttle took us back to the Four Points for a lunch treat at The Mesh Restaurant. It was a feast for the eyes as we were greeted by mouth-watering and signature dishes such as the meaty Lobster Roll with Ebiko, Parmesan crumbled Chicken Schnitzel and sides, the extremely tasty Kolok Mee and the flavoursome Ginger-Scallion Snapper served with a side of steamed Jasmine rice and Choy Sum.
No meal is ever complete without a dessert and I was pleasantly surprised to take a spoonful of my two favourite food meshed together in the form of the TSP Cheesecake that stands for Tau Sar Piah (Mung Beans crusted). It was marriage made in heaven for me!
Alas it was time for my family and I to say goodbye to our host, taking back nothing but fond memories of the Four Points by Sheraton Desaru and its excellent hospitality.
