The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will enhance enforcement and monitoring to ensure that the price of goods is affordable and stable through Ops Pantau 2022, which focuses on inspections at locations such as Ramadan bazaars, Hari Raya bazaars, public markets, wet markets, supermarkets, and grocery stores.

A total of 200 enforcement KPDNHEP personnel throughout Johor will enhance enforcement and monitoring to ensure that the price of goods is affordable and stable.

According to a statement by Lee Ting Han, state Trade Investment and Consumer Affairs chairman, enforcement on controlled items is also given priority to ensure that there is no leakage involving controlled items like petrol and diesel; especially in relation involving Singapore-registered vehicles filling RON 95 petrol at Johor state border stations.

“Based on records, inspections and monitoring through Ops Pantau 2022 which started from 1st April 2022 until 5th April 2022, there are 1,050 premises involving retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers by KPDNHEP Johor for all districts in the state.”

“The inspection focuses on the inspection and monitoring of the supply of essential goods on an ongoing basis according to the distribution chain. The results of the inspection found that the supply of essential items was sufficient and easily available. To date, the supply of basic necessities is adequate at all levels of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers,” he said.

If the inspection and monitoring on the ground reveal violations of the KPDNHEP act and legislation, harsh action will be taken under Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020 and Control of Supply Act 1961.

Lee on behalf of KPDNHEP advised traders especially in the state of Johor, to not take the opportunity to increase the price of goods arbitrarily. Strict action will be taken if traders are found to have committed offences related to supply and prices.
