Regency Specialist Hospital (Regency) is on its way to becoming the largest private hospital in Southern Malaysia. The new 10-storey hospital building adds up to 500 inpatient beds and 120 medical suites to the institution’s capacity. Regency Hospital aspires to be a premier hospital in Southeast Asia, delivering comprehensive and high-quality care to the community.
The unveiling ceremony was witnessed by Chin Wei Jia, Executive Director and Group CEO of Health Management International (HMI) and Serena Yong, CEO of Regency Specialist Hospital who was joined by Mohd Hasnul Ismar bin Mohd Ismail, Group Managing Director of IREKA.
Executive Director and Group CEO of HMI Group, Chin Wei Jia shared that as a multi-disciplinary private hospital, the blueprint of Regency’s growth focuses on increasing its capacity and capabilities to provide holistic care for the local residents and foreign visitors. Chin highlighted that Regency also continuously enhances its Centre of Excellence by focusing on strengthening key expertise, upgrading facilities and equipment, establishing partnerships with overseas healthcare institutions and embracing technology and digitalisation in its clinical and business processes.
According to Regency, the rising frequency of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Malaysia is expected to cost the Malaysian economy RM8.9 billion, or 0.65% of GDP in productivity losses and premature mortality. In light of this, Regency’s expansion with cutting-edge medical facilities, as well as all of its 6 Centres of Excellence (CoE) is aimed at lowering the prevalence of NCD-related early mortality and driving accessible healthcare.
CEO of Regency Specialist Hospital, Serena Yong added, “Regency wishes to work closely with the public sector in helping to combat the rising number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The hospital expansion includes its new stroke unit, a dedicated cardiac and neuro facility, cancer centre and radiotherapy facility, rehabilitation unit, hemodialysis unit among others.”
As the first private hospital in Johor to be approved by the Singapore Ministry of Health to use MediSave, Regency’s commitment to its development within the Iskandar Malaysia region reflects its great dedication and determination in supporting Johor state’s effort to promote health and medical tourism as well as creating job opportunities for the local community, which is expected to grow by 7.6% over the next five years to reach RM91.1 billion by 2025.
