The Southern Power Generation (SPG) Power Station, which is known as the Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor is the first commercial power plant in the world to use the most efficient gas turbine technology produced by General Electric (GE).
Its natural gas fuel combustion technology is capable of producing 60% of electricity and the efficiency of this high-tech gas turbine is capable of contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint.
The opening ceremony of SPG was officiated by His Majesty Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar on 22nd March 2022.
Also with him was His Highness Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim who then paid a visit to SPG.
The SPG with a solid cycle concept has been fully completed and commenced its commercial operations on 1st January 2021.
The construction of the SPG at a cost of RM4.7 billion is a joint venture between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and SIPP Energy Sdn Bhd.
It has become a landmark in the development of the electricity generation industry in Johor and the southern part of the country.
The operation of this station indirectly stimulates and encourages domestic and international investment initiatives.
Furthermore, the station provides adequate, dependable, and stable energy supply infrastructure, as well as the ability to persuade investments in establishing businesses in Johor.
