Johor Week in Expo Dubai 2022 Induced Malaysia’s First L’Étape by Tour de France

The Johor State made its debut at the Expo 2020 Dubai, showcasing Johor Week at the Malaysian Pavilion during week 22 of the World Expo from the 27th of February 2022 to the 5th of March 2022. Themed “The Southern Jewel of Malaysia”, Johor’s presence at this World Expo saw the State continuing to open its doors for investments, offering investor-friendly incentives under the robust and business-friendly Malaysian government policies.

Zarina Abdul Kadir, Chief Executive of Invest Johor said, “Johor is an ideal investment destination as it boasts of having high growth potential and rapid development which investors can leverage on as well as a sustainable economic ecosystem that supports investors looking to expand or establish their business in Malaysia. We are strategically located at the heart of the ASEAN region and along the world’s busiest shipping routes, easily accessible within a 6-hour flight of major ASEAN cities through the Senai International Airport, 3 international ports and an array of highways.”

Meanwhile, during the Johor Week, Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) had also announced that Johor will be hosting the first L’Étape by Tour de France in Malaysia during the Johor, Malaysia – France Business Briefing & Networking Opportunity event at the France Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai. The announcement marks the collaboration between IIB, as the Official Supporting Partner, and Tour de France in organising L’Étape Malaysia at Desaru Coast, Johor commencing on the 4th of June 2022.

IIB’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Khairil Anwar Ahmad said, “The Johor Week that lasted till the 5th of March at the Malaysia Pavilion, not only helped position Johor as an ideal investment destination but also showcased the best of Johor across various sectors, especially in the field of business, economy, tourism as well as innovation, digital and emerging technology. The collaboration with Tour de France provides an opportunity for IIB to strengthen Iskandar Puteri as a cycling destination – balancing business and lifestyle and a choice investment destination in ASEAN.”

General Erik Linquier said, “The France Pavilion was delighted to host this event strengthening Franco-Malaysian cooperation. It is also a great honour to contribute to the influence of one of the most famous French events in the world Le Tour de France”.

As Official Supporting Partner for the L’Étape Malaysia event, IIB has organised a campaign – “RIDE ISKANDAR PUTERI” to promote registration as well as training in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

L’Étape de Tour is a mass cycling event that happens annually which allows amateur cyclists to race over the same route as the Tour de France stage. The series has now expanded to 14 countries such as China, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and now Malaysia.
