Johor Gears Up to Host 2022 Johor Close Badminton Championship

The 10th Johor Close Badminton Championship promises a smashing challenge for aspiring young shuttlers in Gelang Patah, Johor this week.

Johor Badminton Association (JBA) president, Mat Rasid Jahlil believes this junior age-group competition will serve as a stepping stone for players to reach greater heights.

He said the stage is set for the players to showcase their talents as well as to impress selectors to represent the state in national level competitions.

“The objective of this championship is to assemble a strong pool of talented players for the state. This is part of our junior development plan to produce promising players. This will enable JBA to build up a strong feeder squad for the coming editions of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA),” said Mat Rasid.

The competition will comprise of four categories – Under-21, Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12 and will be held at the NS Sport Hall in Gelang Patah, Johor from the 10th till the 13th of February 2022.

The Johor Badminton Association made the official announcement of the 10th edition of the tournament at a press conference at the Ibis Styles Johor in Iskandar Puteri.

Also present at the press conference was the Director of the Johor State Sports Council (MSNJ), Nor Syazlan Abd. Razak and ShekhinahPR’s Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Raj.

The Director of MSNJ, Nor Syazlan praised the initiatives taken by JBA in hosting this tournament which he believes would unearth new talents for the state.

“Indeed, this competition is the right platform for our young payers. I believe there are many talented players at the grassroots level and they need to be exposed to competitive meets like this.

“If we wish to succeed, we really need a large pool of players for us to train them for the future. Therefore, this kind of tournament is very significant for them to showcase their potential and talent so that we can bring in more players with good calibre,” added Nor Syazlan.

The 2022 Johor Close Badminton Championship also received support from the Johor State Sports Council, YOUNG-International, ShekhinahPR Sdn. Bhd, NS Sport and Ibis Styles.
