A total of 72 notices were issued to vegetable traders at several premises around the city on suspicion of selling the essential items at high prices, said the State Unity, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Dr Chong Fat Full in a statement.
Since January, the state Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has undertaken a special operation to identify all of the traders. As a result of the inspection of this operation since last January, a total of 72 notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011 have been issued to vegetable traders to assist in the investigation.
“Besides that, 10 complaints received by KPDNHEP Johor related to the increase in the price of goods have also been investigated and compounded under the same act,” he added.
Dr Chong stated that they are always on alert of rising prices of essential goods and that they along with the relevant agencies, take various control measures from time to time.
He said that the effort was proven last October when a total of 6,854 establishments were inspected during the transition period of phase 3 of the National Rehabilitation Plan (PPN).
“This amount also includes inspections on 5,257 retailers, 1,120 wholesalers and 477 manufacturers in all districts in the state.
“The inspection is made by checking the price and cost information of goods at the supply level of goods involving retailers (wet markets, public markets and supermarkets) and suppliers (farmers, producers and importers so as not to increase prices at will,” he said.
