Eliminating Poverty Through One Food Aid at a Time

Care United Johor Bahru’s Malaysia Day Food Aid distribution is hoped to ease the burdens faced by many Malaysians

Care United Johor Bahru (CUJB) has collaborated with MBJB Zon Kg Melayu Majidee, Taman Suria and Kg Kurnia, along with Badan Kebajikan Islam Kg Melayu Majidee, Johor Bahru on 20th of September to commemorate Malaysia Day by helping-in the effort to eliminate poverty by distributing 1,000 Food Aid Packages to 1,000 diverse residents who were getting their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Kampung Melayu Majidee community hall under the temporary vaccination centre programme.

To abide by the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the closed event was attended by MBJB Mayor, Datuk Noorazam, Johor Bahru UMNO chief, Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad, President of Care United Johor Bahru, Datuk Florence Goh, Chief of Badan Kebajikan Islam Kg Melayu Majidee, Mohd Ali Mohd Salleh and MBJB board member, Zon Kg. Melayu Majidee, Taman Suria and Kg Kurnia, Hajah Saadiah Hussien.

Each Food Aid consisted of essential groceries including 1kg Beef or Chicken, Cooking Oil, Flour, and Bee Hoon noodles with an estimated cost of RM55 per package.

CUJB cited their sponsors and donors especially Care United (M) Sdn Bhd, a separate company that has donated the biggest amount for this food aid which also aided with the packing by its volunteers.

CUJB is projected to have provided over RM500,000 worth of Food Aid to well over 5,000 families (including the homeless) across Johor and Melaka during the months of July and August 2021. Individuals and corporate partners generously provided the resources. Depending on their circumstances, the relief packages normally include a mix of grocery products, ready-to-eat/drink items, and cooked food. Protein supply is given special attention to ensure a balanced diet that promotes healthy growth

“To survive in peace and harmony, united and strong, we must have one family called Malaysian; one nation called Malaysia and one flag called the Jalur Gemilang. As long as poverty exists in our country, we must carry on to eliminate it,” said Florence Goh, President of CUJB in a statement released.
