Johor state government is hoping that the Home Ministry (KDN) would reconsider the stringent Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) requirements that were recently imposed.
Menteri Besar Johor, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohamad stated that this was due to the new conditions having an impact on Johor and wishes that the previous conditions could be preserved.
He also stated that he has discussed the matter with Finance Minister Senator Datuk Seri Tengku Aziz.
“The situation in Johor is different since we are neighbours with Singapore, and the MM2H programme is one of our strengths that provide us with several benefits. Therefore, we hope the Home Ministry will not only review the conditions but also reach an early decision. The new criteria announced have a significant impact on Johor, and we would want to keep the previous conditions if possible,” he told reporters.
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, recently expressed his disappointment with the Home Ministry for refusing to reconsider the stringent MM2H requirements, especially with Johor being a popular state among foreigners seeking to stay under the MM2H which also contributes to the state’s revenue.
The Home Ministry stated on the 11th of August 2021 that MM2H, which had previously been frozen, will be revived with modifications to the application procedure and requirements to balance security and economic concerns.
