B40 Students in Johor to get 8000 Laptops

HP Inc. Malaysia collaborates with the state government to supply laptops and computer accessories to Johorean students sitting for their SPM

On 2nd September 2021, HP Inc. Malaysia supplied 8,000 laptops and assorted computer accessories to the Johor State Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee.

These laptops will be distributed to B40 Johorean students who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination next year. Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni bin Mohammad was present to deliver the devices to the Johor State Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Haji Mazlan Bujang, at the handover ceremony together with HP Inc. Malaysia’s Managing Director, Alex Tan.

“We appreciate HP Inc. Malaysia’s efforts throughout the procurement process and continued support for our Johor Digital Agenda to ease the burden of parents and students and facilitate these students’ home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) across Johor. These devices will be donated to 275 schools across the state for students who will be undertaking SPM next year. We thank HP Inc. Malaysia for supplying our youth with the tools they need to succeed in these challenging times,” said Hasni.

“Education is a fundamental right and at HP, we are committed to closing a gap that the pandemic has exacerbated. We believe that digital equity will be the key to bringing access and means to a new way of learning for our communities. We hope that these 8,000 devices will be able to serve the youth of Johor as they continue to attend school through remote learning,” said Tan.

The HP ProBook 440 G8 laptops, which come bundled with an HP laptop bag, a pocket Wi-Fi dongle, and a SanDisk USB flash drive, were procured at a reduced rate for the Johor state government to help students stay on track with their studies.

Throughout the pandemic, HP Inc. Malaysia has supported similar initiatives to keep Malaysians learning from home safely. This includes partnering with Teach for Malaysia to donate laptops to support B40 students in need, as well as donating devices to Yayasan Hasanah’s Tabung Cerdik school project. Earlier this year, HP has also donated 112 personal computers to vaccination centres throughout Johor to support the state’s efforts in fighting the global COVID-19 pandemic.
