The Johor Vaccine-Immunisation Programme (JVIP), which will only be available to economic frontline workers, aims to increase herd immunity by raising the COVID-19 immunisation rates among industrial workers.
Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad, the Menteri Besar of Johor, said there were some misunderstandings regarding the initiative which began in early August, and that individuals who sought urgent vaccine shots would be charged.
“Because Johor is an industrial state, it is critical that we vaccinate industrial personnel, especially foreigners, because we recognise the importance of multinational companies continuing to operate during the pandemic.
“As a result, the state government is working with a number of companies, including KPJ Healthcare and Pharmaniaga, to launch a paid vaccine programme, but not a public vaccination programme,” he said during the virtual 2021 Johor Youth Conference Sitting.
Hasni stated that any organisation, whether essential or non-essential, may use the JVIP to accelerate the immunisation of its employees.
“So I urge the public to be not confused about this programme and think that the government is asking them to pay for their vaccinations,” he said.
Hasni further stated that Johor was still in Phase One of the National Recovery Plan due to a number of variables such as daily cases exceeding 400 and intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilisation of over 70%.
“In terms of immunisation, Johor has met the criteria for moving to Phase Two, which requires over 17% of the adult population to have completed their vaccination doses.
“However, the state government remains committed to ensuring that we are on the best track to resurrecting the economy for the benefit of the people,” he added.
