By the end of September, 90% of Johor’s adult population should have completed their two-doses of COVID-19 vaccination.
Khairy Jamaluddin, the state’s Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), is optimistic that the objective can be met with extra vaccine supplies this month and next month, as well as the opening of more vaccination centres (PPV) throughout the state.
“With the opening of new PPVs, the vaccination capacity in Johor which is now at 71,000 doses per day involving 259 PPV, is expected to increase to 90,000 doses per day by next month,” he told reporters after visiting the PPV site at Iskandar Malaysia Studios here today.
One of the proposed new PPVs is at Iskandar Malaysia Studios, which has a capacity to administer 7,000 doses per day.
One of the other proposals, according to Khairy, is to build a drive-thru PPV for the disabled and senior residents at Arena Larkin.
“Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Mohd Radzi had made a visit to see the place (Arena Larkin) and she felt it would be suitable for the purpose. I definitely would want to open a drive-thru PPV for the disabled in Johor,” said Khairy, who is also Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
He had previously appeared before Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Mahkota Johor, to present the state’s vaccination supply timetable for August.
In a statement published on the Crown Prince’s official Facebook page, Tunku Ismail stated that Johor would get two million doses of the (COVID-19) vaccine this August.
According to the plan, 324,940 vaccine doses would be delivered on 1st August, 564,234 doses on 9th August, 340,150 doses on 16th August, and 796,344 doses on 23rd August.
Tunku Ismail also expressed optimism that the state would soon establish herd immunity.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said in a statement that the additional two million doses covered all varieties of COVID-19 vaccinations approved by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and for distribution to the PPV in Johor to boost the state’s herd immunity.
To date, 1,362,398 individuals in Johor have gotten their first dose of the vaccine, with 540,895 having received both doses.
According to Dr Adham, about 50.2% of the adult population in the state has at least received the first dose.
