KPDNHEP Johor Stops Misappropriation of 53,974 kg Worth of Subsidised Cooking Oil

The Johor branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) cracked down on an attempt at a factory in Pasir Gudang to misappropriate subsidised one kilogramme (kg) cooking oil packets by transferring them using a grinding machine before pumping into a tank.

A statement from KPDNHEP dated 26th June said that during the raid, it was discovered that the subsidised one kg packages were sourced from numerous manufacturers in Kuantan and the Klang Valley before being transferred to Pasir Gudang.

“A total of 53,974 kg of cooking oil found at the site was confiscated, and of that amount, 24,819 kg of cooking oil has been placed into the tank while the remaining 29,155 packets remain intact,” said the statement.

Aside from that, two lorries, two forklifts, a motorcycle, and assorted equipment were seized, totalling RM359,135.

As a follow-up, three local men, aged 30 to 40, who were lorry drivers and workers, were detained to assist in investigations, adding that investigations would also be carried out against the factory owner and suppliers of cooking oil.

The case is also being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act (Act 613) AMLATFPUAA 2001.
