The Public-Private Partnership COVID-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS), which primarily aims the manufacturing sector, will begin this week in Selangor as Phase 4 of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme before heading to Johor.

The introduction of the programme in Selangor will be observed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and MITI Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, according to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Apart from Selangor, the programme will be launched simultaneously in Penang and Johor, with an emphasis on vital industrial sub-sectors.

“These sub-sectors are vital during the lockdown because they are part of the supply chain of important items and services, including those required to sustain the smooth operation of infrastructures such as the public health care system,” the organisation said in a statement.

During a video conference, Azmin promised trade union representatives that workers who engage in the programme will not be burdened with additional costs as a result of the initiative.

He reaffirmed that the immunisations are free and that companies will bear the administrative costs of the inoculation which cannot be taken from employees’ wages.

As the government prepares to increase vaccination rates in June, July, and August, Azmin asked employers to encourage their employees to join the PIKAS programme.

The Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) approved PIKAS for implementation with on-site vaccinations at certain factories and industrial areas.
