After COVID-19 positive cases were discovered among teachers, pupils, and students in Johor, 27 schools were forced to close. Ten religious schools, as well as 17 primary, secondary, and vernacular schools, will be closed.

Mazlan Bujang, chairman of the State Education, Information, Heritage, and Culture Committee, said all 17 schools under the Education Ministry had been closed in stages over the previous three days.

The affected schools include SK Taman Kota Kulai 2 (closed from April 18-24), SK Taman Bukit Kempas and SK Seri Saujana in Kota Tinggi (April 19-25), SJKC Foon Yew 1 (April 20-22) and SMK Seri Menanti in Muar (April 20-24).

SK Taman Rinting 2, SJKC Pei Chih, SM Agama Attarbiah Al Islamiah, SM Sains Batu Pahat and SJKC Yong Peng 1 are closed from April 20-26, while SJKC Kulai, SJK Saleng, SMK Tun Fatimah Hashim, SMK Ulu Tiram, SK Taman Daya and SMK Senggarang are closed from April 20-27.

The tests were conducted on Sunday, 18th at the One-Stop Covid-19 Assessment Centre (OSCAC) in Pasir Gudang and Bukit Indah.

“For every student and teacher who tested positive, the Health Department will be carrying out surveillance and close contact screenings to make sure no outbreak happens in the schools,” he said.

Earlier on 19th April, state Health and Environment Committee chairman R.Vidyananthan said that 159 students from five schools in Johor Bahru have been ordered to undergo COVID-19 screening at OSCAC. The decision was taken to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further in schools.
