Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort collaborated with NGO Freemarket Johor, to supply packed lunch every day for a month to COVID patients and their families under home quarantine and who were mostly cloistered within Taman Cendana flats in Pasir Gudang. The packed food also went to those with loss of income due to MCO and to the elderly without financial support.
“A total of 6,800 packets of lunch will be handed over to volunteers from Freemarket Johor to cover an estimated 36 families and about 250 members of these families. We started the distribution of packed food on 23rd January as soon as we knew there was a need aligned to the spike in COVID-19 numbers, and will continue to contribute till 22nd February 2021,” said Tan Kai Yang, General Manager of Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort.
Rye Yassin, the person in charge of Freemarket Johor had shared in her Facebook page that when she became aware of 50 COVID-19 patients and their families which totaled close to 300 family members were ordered to be home-quarantined in a PPRT area in Pasir Gudang, she had wondered how they were to survive without being able to go to work, without pay especially for those dependent on daily wages and those who have been out of jobs since MCO began.
“The contribution from Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort provided the answer to my prayer and I wish to thank the management for their timely generosity,” said Rye.
Freemarket Johor was one of the recipients of the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) in 2019.
During the first MCO last year, Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort had carried out the same initiative in providing a total of 22,600 packed lunch (300 packs a day) from 26th May 26 – 9th June 2020 and had collaborated with Yayasan Kebajikan Suria Johor Bahru to reach out to 7500 people who were displaced due to loss of job, income and homes during MCO.
