The Laksamana Run event, organised by the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, involved more than 2,600 runners (TLJCF). While following the SOPs set by the Health Ministry of Malaysia, this annual run successfully garnered support and attention from many Malaysians.

Overcoming the Pandemic Challenge

The Chief Executive Officer of TLJCF, Mohd Ikmal Izam Zaini, said that even though this run was greatly disrupted by the pandemic, Malaysians continue to express their eagerness and enthusiasm to support cancer fighters.

“Every cloud has a silver lining. 2020’s Laksamana Run took place virtually, and we received participation not only from Johor, but also from all over the country.” Laksamana Run has successfully raised an excellent sum of funds this year – more than RM800,000 from its adherent sponsors.

“We really appreciate the gracious support that we have received especially from our major sponsors, Johor Corporation, WCT Holdings Berhad, Berjaya Corporation Berhad, PIJ Holdings Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd, 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Dialog Group Berhad for supporting us to continue the effort in helping cancer fighters,” said Mohd Ikmal.

Laksamana Run has also received generous donations from MMC Berhad Corporation, Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, REDTone International Bhd and many more organisations who have also shown their support for this cause.

As ever with previous events, the Johor Royal Family sanctions Laksamana Run with their blessing, notably Her Highness Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who has always been the royal patron of Laksamana Run.

To date, TLJCF has funded more than RM8,100,000, helping 2,000 cancer fighters in need in Johor to access medical assistance.
