Bursa Malaysia Bhd and the Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) of the United Nations (UN) will work together to establish joint action plans to advance corporate sustainability agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDGs).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed involves cooperation on the creation of the Corporate Sustainability Competency Framework, aimed at serving as a guide for corporate sustainability professionals to assess job skills and core competencies.

In a statement, Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, said the framework was important to provide future professionals with the requisite skills and abilities to respond to the challenges of sustainability in an increasingly complex global environment.

“The MoU signing with UNGCMYB reaffirms our commitment to make progress in building a sustainable marketplace and develop innovative solutions which will also play an important role in advancing the SDGs,” he said.

UNGCMYB Executive Director Faroze Nadar said the partnership signals a common intention to lift the SDG ambition of Malaysian companies as the next competitive advantage, beyond price, quality and pace metrics for local and global trade, and to strengthen corporate sustainability credentials.

The MoU will also leverage BURSASUSTAIN, the digital sustainability platform of the exchange, to engage stakeholders on related sustainability issues and developments in the capital market of Malaysia.
