TPM Technopark Sdn Bhd (TPM Technopark), a subsidiary under the Johor Corporation (JCorp) is said to attract RM17.5 billion worth of investments upon its operation starting by the first quarter of 2021. Under the full support of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysian cyber and digital authority, Kidex’s close proximity and dark fibre connection to Singapore would make them an alternative Data Hub for the South-East Asia region.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad said the 301-hectare project would also offer 1,600 job opportunities, which would cover skilled jobs in information technology on top of the semi-skilled and support workers for the centre while mentioning that Kidex is a part of the country’s development in data hub; 2,950 hectares Kulai Industrial Park (KIP).
“This project (Kidex) can catalyse the growth of the data industry and make Sedenak, Johor a regional data hub in the future. During my visit to Kidex recently, I was informed that the investors eyed those in cloud computing,” he said in a statement, saying that Kidex had attracted interests from local and foreign investors from China, the United Kingdom and Japan.
Hasni relayed that Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) had briefed him that Kidex is one of IRDA’s initiatives under the Smart City Iskandar Malaysia (BPIM) that covers six dimensions which are smart governance, smart people, smart mobility, smart environment, smart economy, and smart living.
“A robust and stable data communication infrastructure would benefit all stakeholders in the Iskandar Malaysia economic corridor — the government, the business sector and the people,”
“According to IRDA, these efforts would not only help Iskandar Malaysia achieve its vision to be a sustainable international standard metropolis but also promote the Digital Johor agenda at the state level and the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan at the national level,” he added.
