Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir. Hasni Mohammad paid a visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda 2 (SKBBU2), Johor Bahru today when the whole school is officially open as per the Ministry of Education’s directive.
The school was partially open for exam takers students on 24th June and the rest of the students joined in after the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools were finalised, taking into account the social distancing among students, meals during recess and many more. While lessons were held online before this, many find the traditional method of teaching and learning in a classroom from teachers is much more effective.
Hasni during his visit was briefed on the primary school’s SOPs practises by Johor Education Department Deputy Director, Shaharuddin Sani and SKBBU2’s principal, Noorayu Jayus. He took note that everything went well without a hitch for the first day at school. He asked a few students about their studies during the home-based learning period under Movement Control Order (MCO) enforcement that took place since 18th March 2020.
“Looking at the careful and detailed arrangement in the school overall today, I believe our children (students) are in good hands,” he said to the media after completing his visit, also mentioning that a total of 15 schools in Muar, Tangkak, Batu Pahat and Pontian, Johor are currently placed as temporary evacuation centres (PPS) for flood victims and are unable to re-open on the set date. One school in Muar; Sekolah Sungai Raya, has not enough classrooms to practise social distance and have rescheduled their re-opening.
Johor has 378,275 students from 1,187 schools in total. Official attendance for the first day of the full school re-opening is yet to be disclosed, taking into account the students that are unable to attend due to flood in the four Johor districts.
