Marrybrown Restaurant Fascinates Swedish Tastebuds

The homegrown restaurant chain gives pulse to halal-food eatery in Scandinavia

Johor-born restaurant chain Marrybrown launched its furthest branch thousands of kilometres away from home to Stockholm, Sweden in Kista Galleria, one of Swedish largest shopping mall on 2nd February 2020.

“We are the only fast-food restaurant that is serving 100% halal meals in the whole country. Every products are certified by JAKIM Malaysia, and it took us more than 7 months to ensure everything is under the procedure of halal, which is what we’re always committed in,” said CEO of Marrybrown, Dato’ Joshua Liew after a prize-giving ceremony held at Marrybrown Headquarters on 4th March 2020.

The reception among the locals for Swedish Marrybrown is immense with 150 metre-long queues every day since day 1. Open 15 hours every day, the only halal-certified restaurant has attracted the halal consumers in Sweden, and their best-selling menu is Nasi Marrybrown – a twist of the traditional Malaysian Nasi Lemak with a branding. Marrybrown has received an offer to open another outlet at two to three other places seeing the huge response within a short time during the winter and is expected to double by the summer season. In the meantime, Marrybrown just confirmed their opening of the second European branch in Amsterdam, Netherlands for Q2 2020 either by May or June which would also be the first halal-certified fast food restaurant in the said country. Founded in 1981, Marrybrown has now expanded overseas and could be found in 16 countries worldwide.

Marrybrown has also recently concluded its 2019 ‘Makan & Menang’ nationwide contest, organised annually since 2017 with the grand prize of a spanking brand new Proton X70. The winner was a lucky 29 years old, Senior Public Accountant, Muhammad Muzamil Bin Jailani, coming all the way from Kuala Lumpur with his family. His winning ticket was obtained from his meal at Genting Highlands, KL back in December 2019.
