We are ready to rock the world!

According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, women make up 55.8% of the labour force participation rate. However, it is also important to note that there are women who have taken a career break at some point in their lives due to some unavoidable factors including childcare commitment, maternity leave, taking care of ageing parents and study breaks.

Going back to work might sound as daunting as it is ever imagined but with proper guideline and assistance, they can overcome those challenges and market themselves to be at par or even better than the existing talent pool be it from young graduates or experienced candidates. With that in mind and in conjunction with the International Women’s Day widely celebrated on the 8th of March 2020, a coalition of women associations namely HALUAN and JEWEL organised a Resume Writing Workshop for women returning to work after a career break.

Held at JEIWA Power House in Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru, the workshop had successfully assisted high numbers of determined women getting back on their feet and re-joining the work force.

“Women should invest in themselves in order to help them grow,” said Sheila Solomon, the resume writing coach.

“Keep it short and sweet. Employers won’t spend a long time on resumes. It’s all about elevator pitch,” she added.

The workshop had not only exposed participants on the tips and tricks of having a professional eye-catching resume, legal advices on employee rights was also the major highlight. A talk given by Danny Loo Kheng Soon from Loo Associates had also opened up some insights on issues related to the Employment Act among others.

A success and confident booster, the programme was fully supported by the Women Development Department.
