Johor Unity, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman, Dr Chong Fat Full during his reply at the State Legislative Assembly (Dewan Undangan Negeri) on 23rd August said that the state government has monitored the price of essential goods sold in Johor through four initiatives:

  1. Prices were controlled through the implementation of inspections and enforcement from the level of retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers.
  2. Fixed price control for controlled goods such as sugar, cooking oil and flour.
  3. Implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for all major festivals.
  4. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Malaysia, (KPDNHEP) has also provided a ‘Price Catcher’ application to enable users to compare prices (Smart Consumer).

As part of the 1Pengguna programme, ‘Price Catcher’ is a mobile app designed to give consumers a simple way to check the daily prices of all basic grocery items at all stores and markets across Malaysia.

Users may check the prices of things on demand and compare them with a few touches on the app and minimum internet access. They can then choose where they want to buy the things based on their requirements and convenience. The app is integrated with the Infopengguna web portal and MyHarga System via http://pricecatcher.infopengguna.com.

Consumers can download the ‘Price Catcher’ app through Google Playstore and Apple Store.
