13-Month-Old Baby Boy Yang Yang with brain injury requires long-term care, appeals for public support

Thirteen-month-old baby boy, Low Jun Yang (Yang Yang), was once like any other child his age, preparing to learn how to crawl and slowly pull himself up to stand. However, an unexpected brain injury dramatically changed the course of his life.

According to available information, Yang Yang had previously shown normal development and had no known health issues. Unfortunately, at 11 months old, he was found to have suffered bleeding in his brain.

Following a CT scan examination, doctors discovered a blood clot in the brain and indicated that the injury may have resulted from external impact, including a fall or similar incident. Since sustaining the brain injury, Yang Yang has experienced significant physical changes, including stiffness in his limbs (abnormal muscle tone), delayed responses, muscle weakness, and even hearing impairment. Doctors have also highlighted that he is currently at a critical stage for physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Without continuous intervention and training, the risk of further deterioration in his physical abilities may increase over time.

Today, what should have been milestones of learning to sit steadily, crawl, and stand have become difficult challenges for Yang Yang. He is currently dependent on tube feeding and requires round-the-clock care. His vision has also been severely affected, leaving him dependent on others for daily living activities.

Due to the high costs associated with rehabilitation, nutrition, and daily care, the centre is currently raising RM47,000 to cover Yang Yang’s expenses for the coming year, including physical therapy, medical equipment, milk formula, diapers, and other essential living needs.

Yang Yang is currently receiving care at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Istimewa Johor Bahru (JB SAYANG). Despite facing tremendous challenges, Yang Yang continues to fight on with resilience. Cheryl, person-in-charge of the centre, shared, “We hope the community can give greater support to him because every act of kindness can help Yang Yang receive continuous care and therapy, allowing him to maintain his physical functions and basic mobility as much as possible. Every contribution can become a source of strength for him to keep moving forward.”
