An old proverb says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. Ihsan Johor, Sooriya Udhayam Malaysia, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Wawasan JB and Yayasan Suria JB (YSJB) with Aqina Holdings Sdn Bhd (Aqina Farm) says why not both?

YSJB’s founder and chairman, James Ho in Yayasan Kebajikan Suria – Foundation’s Facebook post said that the non-government organisations (NGOs) have signed an MoU with the semi-integrated operator in the chicken production industry, Aqina Farm, to come up with a franchising plan to help the B40 segment in finding their footing to earn an income independently.

The Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) winner YSJB’s candidate, Normawarni or fondly called, ‘Warni’, was chosen to be the pioneering participant under this programme.

After being interviewed, screened and trained by Aqina with proper SOPs in place, Warni managed to open KWAFC (Kak Warni Aqina Fried Chicken) on 30th July in Taman Cempaka, Skudai. All equipment was supplied by Aqina Farm and YSJB sponsored over RM400 worth of initial essentials such as the canopy, chairs, tables and etc. The franchise business will be monitored by the four NGOs and Aqina to ensure its viability.

“Part of the profits will be deducted over a 6-month period with Aqina teaching the B40 group some simple book-keeping, and they will be on their own after 6 months.” The statement elaborates on how the programme is conducted.

“Warni has complied with all MBJB’s requirement, licence and certificate of attendance for food handling.”

Warni is a recipient of YSJB’s monthly aid and household provisions from her local shop, also paid by YSJB. Her allocation would help more people in need once she is able to provide for herself, the statement said.

KWAC is located at a roadside stall at Jalan Cengkerik 6, Taman Cempaka, 81200 Skudai, JB (opposite FENDZ Building) and operates daily from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm, seven days a week. Do drop by her stall for hot fried chicken and lend your support to local vendors.
