Chef Zul invites you to enjoy Miang Kham using oysters at Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre's Dine@Eight

A few days ago there were a few news reports including the ones from southern Thailand that over 100,000 Malaysian tourists crossed the northern border during the long public holidays, and Thai locals reported that the flocks of Malaysians were there to enjoy Siamese cuisine!

What if I told you that you too could enjoy Siamese food right smack in the middle of Johor Bahru?

Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre (Holiday Inn) is serving ‘Spectacular Siam Dinner Buffet’, courtesy of Sous Chef Zul, who has been serving Thai food for over decades.

“At the heart of this culinary experience is the Thai philosophy of “Nam Jai,” a phrase that translates to “water from the heart,” said Angelyn Chen, Assistant Marcom Manager, Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre, to us.

“This profound concept, deeply rooted in Thai culture, symbolises a spirit of generosity and warmth – a tradition of sharing that the Thai people hold dear to,” she explained, passing the baton to Chef Zul, who led the team made up of Junior Sous Chef Kudin, Chef Aidil, and Pastry Chef Jehan to craft a menu that embodies the spirit of Nam Jai this season on the Siamese culinary experience.

When Chef Zul explained to the media about the concept of the buffet, his passion for Siamese taste and hospitality were blazing, especially when he showed a fusion and twist of food that I really like—the miang Kham with oysters.

A perfect rendition of the western’s style in raw oyster enjoyment, but instead of just a slice of lemon or a drop of Tabasco sauce to taste, Chef Zul placed the ingredients of Miang Kham in the oyster and it’s the perfect fusion that just felt natural.

For those with seafood allergies like me, fear not, as you could enjoy Miang Kham with a perfectly fried fish to a crisp too.

Also pick up some freshly cooked, fluffy omelette to eat together with piping hot, fragrant Tom Yam Goong just like you would at Thailand’s floating market. I had it together with the tangy and flavourful pineapple rice that is sitting side by side with the red rice.

Throughout my buffet indulgement, I sipped on Lemongrass and Ginger tea that would aid to cleanse my palate in between dishes. Each guest will receive one complimentary glass of this tea.

It won’t be a complete experience without Pad Thai; all you have to do is ask for a fresh serving, cooked live as you wait.

To conclude my meal, a small plate of delightful and vibrant Jack Fruit Sticky Rice, the creamy coconut mixed with the sweet jackfruit and joyful sticky rice—made its way not only to my stomach but also to my heart.

Would you love to have some these authentic Thai foods away from Thailand this weekend?
