The world celebrates World Laughter Day to manifest positivity and world peace on the first Sunday of May. Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club (JBHJC), 2014’s Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) winner in the category of ‘Social Innovator’, hosted its 13th JB-World Laughter Day 2021 celebration through a Zoom call with close to 100 participants from all over the world including guest, Dr Sivakumar Thurairajasingam, a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Founder of Laughter Yoga Clubs Movement and the World Laughter Day himself, Dr Madan Kataria with his wife Madhuri Kataria made an appearance during the session to relay a message for the participants.

Dr Madan Kataria in his message said laughter is scientifically proven to help improve total wellbeing, boost immunisation and is a good tool for mental health; all the keys that are needed during this time of pandemic crisis. “The war outside is the reflection of the war inside us. Through the practise of laughter, we can bring peace inside us, but healthy and happy people bring more peace in this world. So through laughter, and the practise of laughing yoga exercises every day, we are actually building good health, bringing happiness in our life,” he said.

World Laughter Day is a meaningful expression of world peace, as it promotes a worldwide awareness of brotherhood and solidarity through laughter.

Among the activities that were held during the one hour online meet-up includes a minute of pure laughing together, drum circle, reading an extract of Dr Madan Kataria’s World Laughing Day message conveyed in Malay, Mandarin, Tamil and English, laughter exercise, dancing, clown dialogue skit and watching videos together.

JBHJC hosted their Zoom laughing yoga session daily. Interested participants could get in touch with the club through their Facebook page to join their session or to host your own private session.
