The foundation is also eyeing to move into creating more awareness about cancer
Tunku Laksamana Jalil Cancer Foundation (TLJCF) hosted a Hari Raya celebration for 125 cancer patients and their family with the foundation’s staff, board of director members, partners and volunteers at Holiday Villa Johor Bahru hotel.
42 child patients and 83 adult patients received gifts and ‘duit Raya’ from Her Majesty the Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah who is also the Chairwoman of TLJCF.
When addressing the media, TLJCF Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mohd Shahrin gave an update on the foundation’s progress and vision in the near future.
“Since August 2016 to April 2019, the foundation has aided 1,368 cancer patients with a fund of RM6.35million”, said Mohd Shahrin. The breakdown of the funds were split into three; aid of equipment, medication aid and treatment aid that are served under 5 hospitals in Johor namely Hospital Sultan Ismail, Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Muar, Hospital Batu Pahat and Hospital Mersing.
Donation came from individuals and few corporations that have helped inject a part of the finance for TLJCF.
TLJCF is looking into helping more cancer patients that are categorised under the B40 group and they are expanding the purpose of the foundation to help create even more awareness on cancer with a programme called “The Sooner The Better”.
The programme with involvement of volunteers from UTHM and the community would focus on helping people to detect early stage cancer as it has a better chance in recovering, and this process could save even more lives. Priority would be given to B40 individuals with a family history of cancer and around 5,000 financially challenged Johoreans would be aided on the screening session itself.
“The Sooner The Better” programme is scheduled to kickstart within the end quarter of this year or by next year (2020).
