Turmeric Restaurant, an all-day dining outlet serving the best of Thai and Malay cuisine, is creating awareness about the beauty of old Malaya by having a Tiffin promotion.

A tiffin is a multi-level food carrier used by Asians in the past and now have received a revival with its vibrant colours and designs. Malaysians used to carry cooked food in the past with tiffin carriers that were made from aluminium. With the increase of awareness for the environment, most people are carrying tiffin carriers when buying food instead of using plastic bags.

Tiffin carriers of the early 1900s came in a variety of forms and sizes, as well as vibrant, colourful colours and designs for groups, individuals, and families. The British brought the tiffins to Malaya because they used them in India to transport their lunch food to work. Indonesia, Thailand, and even Hungary have adopted this approach. Tiffin is a symbol of Malaysia’s multi-racial population as it is used by everyone and is distinguished by its colours and decorations.

Turmeric wanted to showcase signature Malay dishes that have been handed down by generations of chefs such as Chicken cooked with Coconut, Slow-braised Lamb/Beef and Tiger Prawns in Chilli paste. These recipes are typical of what the local Malay families serve where chilli, coconut and spices reign supreme.

Scrumptious traditional desserts such as the traditional green crepe rolled with coconut palm sugar filling (Kuih Ketayap) or the classic Ondeh-Ondeh is always the perfect way to end a nice meal. The Tiffin Menu is made from scratch with herbs and spices that are authentic to the region. Orders must be placed at least two hours ahead of time. The Tiffin set costs RM200+ for two people and RM300+ for three people.
