SK Medini has shown their full support for Sustainable Development Goal 15 – Life on Land
The world that we are living now is getting weaker and older due to the massive and never-ending development by human beings which has dramatically affected not only us, but also the nature in general.
Based on the report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services that was released this May, around 1 million animals and plant species are now threatened with extinction.
Therefore, SK Medini through the Library Club has initiated numbers of programmes to expose their students on the significance of conserving and preserving the nature, hence supporting the 15th Sustainable Development Goal; Life on Land.
The Library Club had organised an educational movie trip to AEON Bukit Indah last weekend – The Lion King movie session that was participated by 116 people comprising students, teachers and parents. This was a follow up event after the students had their poster making session at school.
“This trip is one of the ways in shaping students to become well-rounded. We try to teach students through holistic approach including facilitating them to socialise while at the same time taking back home good values from the movie,” said Mohamed Rizal Kapandi (Cikgu Rizal), SK Medini Library Teacher.
“Our practice at SK Medini is to always encourage students to exhibit what they have learned after each programme they’ve been involved in. Through self-reflection, we can bring out their full potential by assisting them to talk confidently besides preparing the material,” he added.
The school recently won Majlis Perbandaran Iskandar Puteri’s Choice Award and brought back gold medal during RCE Iskandar Sustainable & Low Carbon Schools Exhibition held on the 15th July 2019.
SK Medini has also extensively adapted the digital classroom approach in their teaching and learning process thanks to Cikgu Rizal who is also the Winner for Innovative Teacher of The Year (Award for Contribution to the Students) ISA 2019 and Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Award (IMSHA) 2017 winner for Education Advancement category.
