Extending its credential as a Master Community Developer, Sunway Property, a subsidiary of Sunway Group through its southern region development Sunway Iskandar in Johor, tightens its commitment in Green Building and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of Affordable and Clean Energy and Climate Action. Building its cities first from tin mining wasteland more than 30 years back, before it was known as Sunway City Kuala Lumpur today, Sunway Group is equipped with sustainable know-hows since day one and it now envisions a future with cleaner and greener implementation.
This vision is vindicated by Sunway City Kuala Lumpur’s recognition as Malaysia’s first sustainable township by the Green Building Index, which has won two FIABCI Prix d’Excellence and three FIABCI Malaysia awards. The township is also the country’s pioneering low-carbon city as awarded by the Malaysian Institute of Planners.
Following the headquarters’ footsteps, Sunway Iskandar is dedicated to building a sustainable and smart integrated city in Johor and has become the first township in Johor to be awarded with the GBI Silver Rating. Sustainability in Action
Solar PV System, a well-known source of Renewable Energy with emerging technology in the industry especially the commercial sector has started deploying solar PV technology as one of the key green features and an effort to reduce carbon footprint towards decarbonisation. Through this initiative, Sunway Iskandar aims to educate the community through raising the importance of living sustainably and the awareness in promoting reusable energy.
The township is balanced between city and nature, as over 40% of the land is designated as green space, making Sunway Iskandar a truly Nature’s Capital City.
Climate, Energy & Water
Sunway Iskandar has over 22% open spaces including green spaces, which is more than the local authority’s mandatory requirement of 15%, while more than 10% of the public spaces are provided with open water or water features that gives a cooling effect to the surrounding environment, reducing overall heat.
Environmental & Ecology
More than 12,000 trees are being tended to in the development’s nursery. The idea behind them is that for every tree removed in the development , one or two more are put back in the place. This is in line with Sunway’s commitment towards United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15 especially.
Community Planning & Design
Marked its name in the Malaysia Book of Records as the “First Property Customisation and Online Purchase System” in Malaysia, SUNWAY Grid, within Sunway Iskandar has also earned its Silver Rating from GreenRE.
