The 4th edition of the Tourism Johor Golf Tournament 2021 saw a total of 166 golfers compete for the Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy. The tournament was organised by the Johor Golfer Association (JGTA) and supported by Tourism Johor and Tourism Malaysia. It was held at the stunning Els Club Desaru Coast on the 27th of November 2021.

The money was raised from partnership contributions, sponsorships in cash as well as sales generated through an auction of exciting items. Two hole-in-one prize gouges were put up for auction as there were no winners. A mock cheque for RM1,121,500 was presented by Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, President of JGTA to His Highness Tunku Abu Bakar Alhaj ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Putera Johor on behalf of Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

The Tourism Johor Golf Tournament for the Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy has grown in popularity each year to become one of the most desired golf tournaments in the country. Due to the huge response from the golf community, the event had to be hosted at two highly ranked golf courses — the Ocean Course and the championship Valley Course. In the Championship Category, 58 players with low handicaps teed off at the Valley Course, while 108 players with greater handicaps teed off at the Ocean Course in the Open Category on a shotgun start. With 108 players, His Highness Tunku Putera Johor honoured the competition by playing on the ocean course.

Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, the president of Johor Golf Tourism Association said, “In conjunction with the tournament, JGTA also organised a charity drive and auction to raise funds to benefit the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation through cash contributions and auctioning off some exciting items including accommodation stays at the exquisite Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas and One&Only Desaru Coast. We are very pleased to receive generous cash contributions from donors totalling RM1,121,500 which will all be channelled directly to the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

After months of lockdown and MCO, JGTA hope to see the tournament jumpstart the golf industry. He added, “We wish to see more tournaments that attract participation from within Johor but more so from other parts of the country.”
