The Johor government will allocate a total of RM680,000 for the Sultan Ismail Hospital’s (HSI) facility improvements and immediate repairs.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that the allocation was based on his surprise visit to the hospital, where he noted issues that required immediate attention.

“There are matters that need the government’s immediate attention and I have discussed it with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page.

Onn Hafiz also said the state government has approved an allocation of RM500,000 to build additional parking spaces within the hospital’s compound to facilitate patients and visitors.

“In addition, the state government has approved RM95,000 allocation to replace the polycarbonate roofing in front of the hospital’s lobby which was damaged by a storm on 14th August.”

“Both patients and visitors will also have better accessibility to comfortable facilities such as the addition of linked-seating at the cost of RM75,000,” said Onn Hafiz.

According to Onn Hafiz, Khairy will consider increasing the number of nurses at HSI through the Health Ministry in order to ease the hospital’s workload.

He explained that the additional nurses are a temporary measure until the number of patients subsides when the new hospital in Pasir Gudang opens in late 2024.

Onn Hafiz has also shown gratitude to Johor Health and Unity Committee chairman, Ling Tian Soon, the Health Ministry and the involved parties during his visit in the statement.
