After being curious as to how dining at the Causeway Cafe at St Giles, Southkey Johor Bahru would be like, The Iskandarian finally got to inaugurate the experience with the hotel’s Chinese New Year buffet preview.
Sharing the same parking lot with Midvalley Mega Mall, South Key; entering the hotel through a shopping mall felt like opening another realm as I made my way to the Causeway Cafe at the sixth floor.
There are so many delicious dishes displayed in the buffet and I was excited to whet my appetitie with ‘Mango Salad’ first followed by my ultimate favourites of ‘Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken’ paired with ‘Yong Chow Fried Rice’ – the kind of savoury dishes that any South East Asian foodie would enjoy! Meanwhile, my colleagues enjoyed their freshly caught, juicy ‘Prawn Harlok’ before gasping in unison at the enjoyment of having the classic Chinese New Year’s family favourite; the ‘Cantonese-style Steam Bass’.
This CNY Buffest was enjoyable to the palate as I got to savour traditional Chinese dishes as well as fresh Japanese food like Sushis and Okonomiyaki. Saving room for more, I tucked into the sumptuous, tender slices of ‘Oven roasted BBQ Beef Brisket’ before picking up some ‘Wok Fried Black Pepper Beef with Ginger’ to complement my fluffy white rice.
The choices for desserts are wide from Malay kuihs to Muah Chee, but do try the sweet ‘Serawa Durian’ and ‘Coconut Pudding’ and ‘Lime Jelly with Cube Fruit’ for some tropical taste; the perfect way to end the evening.
The Chinese New Year Buffet Dinner is available only on 21st and 22nd January 2023 from 6.30pm to 10pm, priced at RM158nett for every paying adult while kids aged 6-12 and senior citizens aged 60 and above is priced at RM79nett. Children below 5 years old dine-in for free.
