Shopee, the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, and a leading e-commerce platform in Brazil, brought its Shopee Rai Lokal Jelajah Komuniti initiative to Johor as part of the Department of Insolvency Malaysia (MdI) Johor Open Day 2026 in Pengerang. Held at Dewan Kejora Bandar Penawar, the roadshow reflected Shopee’s ongoing efforts to make digital commerce more accessible to local entrepreneurs and communities across Malaysia.

The event gathered over 200 local entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners, affiliates, and community members for a series of practical sharing sessions focused on digital entrepreneurship, online business growth, and expanding access to wider markets through e-commerce. The initiative aims to help local MSMEs strengthen their digital readiness and better navigate today’s increasingly competitive online marketplace.

Officiated by Dato’ Sri Azalina binti Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), the event highlighted the importance of equipping local businesses with the skills needed to participate in the digital economy.

“As Johor continues to grow as an economic hub, it is important that local entrepreneurs are equipped with the skills to seize opportunities in the digital economy. Programmes such as Shopee Rai Lokal Jelajah Komuniti help bring practical digital knowledge closer to the community, enabling businesses to grow and in turn contribute meaningfully to the growth of the local economy,” said Azalina.

Nadia Anwar, Head of Corporate Affairs, Shopee Malaysia, said, “Johor is home to many local businesses and products, from artisanal food products like traditional pes Muar and local delicacies to heritage textile crafts and apparel. Many of these businesses have strong potential to grow through digital commerce. At Shopee, we are committed to making e-commerce accessible to entrepreneurs regardless of where they are located, by providing the tools, knowledge, and support they need to participate confidently in the digital economy. Through Shopee Rai Lokal Jelajah Komuniti, we hope to help more local businesses strengthen their digital capabilities, reach customers beyond their immediate communities, and unlock new opportunities for growth.”

As part of the programme, ShopeeXperts led the core training sessions, introducing participants to various aspects of building and growing an online business. These included setting up a Shopee store, improving product discoverability, engaging customers more effectively, and utilising features such as Shopee Live and campaign tools. Participants were also introduced to the Shopee Affiliate Programme, which provides alternative income opportunities through content creation and online product promotion across social media platforms.

The Pengerang edition is the latest stop in the nationwide Jelajah Komuniti initiative, which first launched in Papar (Sabah) in late 2025. Since then, the roadshow has expanded across Malaysia, making key stops in Kuching (Sarawak), Penang, and Terengganu. Through training, ecosystem support, and grassroots community engagement, the initiative continues to empower entrepreneurs nationwide while helping Malaysian businesses strengthen their digital capabilities and achieve sustainable growth in the evolving e-commerce landscape.
