“Have you been to the new hotel in town?”
I can definitely say I have now! Sheraton Johor Bahru invited The Iskandarian over for their Christmas Dinner buffet preview, A Taste of Celebration alongside its Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Parked in the basement, with its automated gate, I went to level 5, where The Community Lobby is located. Greeted by the view of the city, you can witness the RTS in progress right there in the middle of the window, like a natural ‘painting’ that relays a poetic statement. A spanking new hotel, observing the upcoming connectivity’s progress; everything from the restaurant to the halls are available on the same floor.
After the festive tree lighting ceremony, I went to their Daily Social’s restaurant and immediately loved the green and pink Madeline ‘trees’ with countless desserts underneath them like presents on a Christmas morning.

Mesmerised by the desserts near the beverage bar, I quickly snapped myself and straighten up to find the appetisers which are aplenty! I chose a bit of refreshing raita from the Indian section and a small bowl of surprisingly savoury Apple Soup to start off.
It’s the year-end holidays, so of course the roasted meats would be the main course in the buffet. The restaurant served tasty Honey Glazed Whole Lamb, freshly cut by demand, and it was so popular that the pre-cuts are almost always cleared each time I passed by the section! A testament to how delicious it is for everyone.
What is a celebration without satay in Malaysia? Barbecued in action, there are plenty of
these locally spiced skewers for everyone. From the choices of beef and chicken, prepared between the Indian and Chinese sections.
For my vegetarian friends, the roast section also serves Roasted potatoes and pumpkins beside the extensive options of veggies at the salad bar. I would suggest the Indian section’s potatoes of Aloo Jeera, and the Chinese section’s vegetables stir fry besides the hot soups of Wild Mushroom and Apple.
With all this rich food, it was time to indulge in my sweet tooth cravings and head to the dessert station.
I was overjoyed by the Chocolate Nougat bars that are cut by demand. There’s a long queue for it, just next to the Waffle section which is freshly made and comes with ice cream as toppings, but it was worth the wait. The kids would definitely love this, but careful to not get them into sugar rush mode!
Yuletide had to come with the appearance of Yule Log Cake. Here, they have several Santas and reindeers’ mini figurines depicting a story. Keep a look out for pretty and fun pastries like the Mushroom-shaped Meringue and fresh Flowers cake.
There is more to discover, and the journey is to be embarked with people that you cherish. Good food ought to be shared with good company.
