Segamat Hospital, Johor requires an additional 49 doctors, particularly medical officers (MOs), to improve the health-care system’s efficiency.
Ling Tian Soon, chairman of the Johor Health and Environment Committee, stated that the hospital required 169 doctors to meet current needs, as opposed to the 120 doctors currently on duty, which included specialists and medical officers.
He stated that the services of health workers were greatly needed, particularly to manage various services and departments, some of which operate 24 hours a day.
“However, health workers continue to provide the best service to the people, but a lack of manpower has caused waiting times to increase, and several appointments have had to be rescheduled,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Ling visited Segamat Hospital after receiving numerous complaints from the community about a shortage of health workers, which has resulted in longer wait times in several departments.
He stated that the state government had contacted the Ministry of Health (MOH) for assistance in placing additional health workers at Segamat Hospital.
Previously, the Johor State Health Department (JKNJ) denied that Segamat Hospital would be closed beginning 1st July, as reported on social media.
Dr Mohtar Pungut @ Ahmad, Johor Health Director, stated that the hospital is still open and that there is no closure as previously reported.
Furthermore, he stated that JKNJ has taken note of the letter of suspension for referrals of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) cases to the hospital, which has also gone viral.
“JKNJ is reviewing and finalising service arrangements at Segamat Hospital’s O&G Department to ensure that the community receives effective and continuous service.
“The current status and future plans for this matter will be announced in the near future,” he said in a statement.
Dr Mohtar stated that JKNJ is dedicated to ensuring that any measures to restructure services and optimise human resources are implemented in a planned manner.
He stated that this is to ensure the continuity of operations as well as the continuity of treatment and services provided to the community.
Previously, a post by the owner of an account on Threads went viral, claiming that Segamat Hospital would close due to a lack of doctors and staff.
