Following the positive development of the housing project thus far, the Johor government is confident that the target of building 30,000 units of Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) within five years will be met by the fourth quarter of 2026.
Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, Chairman of the state Housing and Local Government Committee, stated that 20,100 units have been completed and keys have been handed over to their owners.
He stated that the remaining 9,900 units are expected to be completed within the timeframe and according to the construction plan.
“Our accomplishment so far, with 20,100 units built, almost covers the entire district,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Johor Budget Initiative 2026 Launching Ceremony.
Datin Paduka Dr Suhailizan Suliman, the CEO of the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ), was also in attendance.
Mohd Jafni stated that the RMMJ project, which includes houses priced below RM300,000, will encompass both urban and rural areas.
“About 15,000 units were built in urban areas, particularly in Johor Bahru, Pasir Gudang, Tebrau, Kulai, and Kota Iskandar,” he said.
Meanwhile, he stated that the state government introduced the Perumahan Kasih Johor initiative, which includes three special assistance schemes, in the Johor Budget 2026.
He mentioned the House Rental Assistance Scheme for the Low-Income Group (B40), which provided RM200 in assistance over a 10-month period.
“The First Home Purchase Assistance Scheme provides a housing subsidy of RM5,000 to each eligible applicant for a home priced under RM500,000.
“While the First Home Purchase Assistance Scheme offers one-time financial assistance of RM2,000,” he explained.
