State Tourism, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi answers the questions raised by Kempas, Semerah dan Tenggaroh in the Johor State Legislative Assembly on 1st December 2020 about SUKMA XX after it was announced to be delayed to the year 2022.
Onn Hafiz said that of the 39 venues provided, 13 venues are newly built and 17 have been upgraded and the rest are existing venues. The construction of new venues such as the Johor Velodrome, Gold Arena, Johor Shooting Centre, Football Square, Cruise Centre are part of the SUKMA 2020 games organisation costing RM617.9 Million.
The cost of infrastructure development and sports facilities for SUKMA 2020 amounted to RM467.9 Million while the Management Cost was RM150 Million. RM142 Million out of it has been allocated by the federal government for infra development and RM65 Million for management.
He added that MSNJ, Johor State Stadium Corporation (PSNJ), MBJB, MBIP have held several meetings to determine the coordination and to make full use of the venues. Here are the outtakes from the meetings:
- SUKMA venues will be training places for Johor athletes under the MSNJ programme and will also be used as local competition venues throughout the year 2021 until SUKMA XX Johor 2022.
- A total of RM6.45 million has been allocated for SUKMA venues’ maintenance next year.
- Depending on the COVID-19 situation – tournaments will also be held at the facilities.
- The state government through MSNJ has planned several agendas for the direction of SUKMA Johor athletes by introducing several initiatives such as educational assistance.
The Johor State Sports Council (MSNJ) will work with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam to provide a special course for SUKMA Johor athletes to further their studies under the Off-Campus Studies (PLK) Diploma in Sports Science Management. 30 Johor athletes that signed up for this programme will be given a one-off assistance of RM1,000.
