Amir Muttaqin, Aniq Muttaqin, Abid Muttaqin, and Adib Muttaqin Md Khairuddin, four Kelantan quadruplets, garnered notice when they enrolled as freshmen at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Batu Pahat, Johor.
The 23-year-olds all selected the same programme; the Faculty of Technology Management and Business (FPTP) at UTHM’s Bachelor of Real Estate Management with Honours.
They chose this sector since they had planned to pursue a degree in real estate management and already obtained a Certificate in Property Valuation from the National Institute of Valuation (INSPEN).
The four brothers were happy and excited to have advanced to a higher level of school when they were given the chance to continue their education at UTHM.
However, Abid Muttaqin pointed out that because attending university meant leaving their family and relocating far from Kelantan, the experience was also mixed with anxiety.
“Having successfully progressed to the bachelor’s degree level is exhilarating, but leaving our family behind is also a source of regret.
However, since this is our first time attending university and we have travelled all the way from Kelantan, it is a little nerve-wracking,” he added.
According to Abid Muttaqin, living and studying as quadruplets at UTHM has unique perks, especially in terms of their daily life and academic pursuits.
“One of the benefits is that it is easy for us to study and revise together; we can remind each other to attend classes and complete assignments, and we help one another while living at the college,” he said.
Meanwhile, their mother, Rusmaizuati Mukhatar, said the biggest challenge in raising four children of the same age was financial, as almost every necessity had to be provided in quadruplicate.
According to her, these challenges began when they were infants covering expenses for milk and diapers and it persisted as they entered their teenage years and eventually pursued university studies.
“The main and greatest challenge is actually financial, because everything happens simultaneously and the costs are four times higher.
“The impact was felt most keenly when they entered university, as tuition fees alone reached around RM10,000 for all four of them excluding other necessities but thankfully, there was always enough for the children’s needs,” she said.
To ensure her four children remained motivated in their studies, Rusmaizuati said she and her husband, Md Khairuddin Musa, constantly offered encouragement and words of support, while urging them to study and revise together.
These efforts paid off when all four achieved impressive Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results: two obtained 7As, while the other two secured 6As.
“As parents, we always provided encouragement and words of support, and we also advised them to study and revise together.
“We hope these quadruplets can continue their excellence at the degree level, adapt to life at UTHM, study diligently, maintain good character, excel in both academics and co-curricular activities, and uphold the family’s good name,” she said.
She also hopes that her four children will build bright futures after graduation, secure stable employment, become independent, and contribute to society.
Meanwhile, the four siblings hope that their time at UTHM will serve not only as a platform for academic excellence but also as an opportunity to develop better character and self-discipline. “Our hope is simply to fulfil our parents’ dreams by achieving excellent results in our chosen fields.
“We also aim to enhance our character and self-discipline during our time at UTHM,” said Abid Muttaqin.
