GSM Chicken Station and Walters Farm, with the support of the Segamat Municipal Council, collaborated and jointly hosted the “Crocodile Adoption and Naming Ceremony” event, promoting ecotourism while fostering economic growth in the region.

The event saw GSM Chicken Station officially adopting two crocodiles and naming Croco and Dylus. As part of the initiative, GSM Chicken Station pledged to sponsor fresh chicken to feed the crocodiles, ensuring they remain as the zoo’s star attractions. This unique partnership aims to position Segamat as a compelling destination for visitors.

Segamat Municipal Council President, Haji Mohd Helmi Bin Dato’ Haji Sha’ri @ Shangari, officiated the ceremony and witnessed Walters Farm CEO, Tey Jia Ying, presenting the adoption and naming certificate to GSM Chicken Station founder, Ghai Swee Ling.

As part of the event, renowned mural artist Tan Jian Siong from Muar was invited to create a vibrant train-themed mural on the crocodile enclosure.

Haji Mohd Helmi highlighted that the crocodile adoption initiative supports the council’s vision of transforming Segamat into a premier ecotourism hub. He shared plans to enhance Segamat’s old town and incorporate nearby attractions, such as Bukit Cinta and Jeram Tinggi Waterfall in Jementah, into the region’s tourism strategy. With the upcoming launch of the Gemas-Johor Bahru electrified double-track railway project, Segamat is set to attract a significant increase in tourist arrivals.

Walters Farm CEO, Tey Jia Ying, expressed gratitude to GSM Chicken Station for its support, highlighting how this partnership enriches the zoo’s offerings and creates a distinctive interactive experience for visitors. She hopes the initiative will encourage more people to explore Segamat’s unique ecotourism attractions.

GSM Chicken Station founder, Ghai Swee Ling, shared the event’s theme, “Hop on the GSM Train to Explore Endless Possibilities,” which reflects the company’s dedication to merging culture with tourism to boost local economic growth. “Through the adoption of ‘Croco’ and ‘Dylus,’ we aim to showcase Segamat’s natural treasures while supporting sustainable tourism,” she said. She reiterated the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration to create a win-win scenario for both the community and the economy.

Additionally, both parties announced a reciprocal promotional campaign. Visitors to Walters Farm will receive food and shopping discounts at GSM Chicken Station, while customers at GSM Chicken Station will enjoy discounted tickets to Walters Farm. This promotional campaign will officially launch on 1st December 2024.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a special visit to the GSM Chicken Station outlet, sampling its signature dishes, including the crowd-favorite classic Railway Bento. The event was attended by notable figures, including Tan Beng Tong and his wife, further underscoring the event’s importance to the local community

Earlier this year, GSM Chicken Station unveiled the “Train Across Time” mural on its storefront wall. The mural, launched by Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke and Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, earned recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Largest Train Mural in Malaysia”. It has since become a local landmark, attracting visitors from near and far. With Walters Farm now serving as the first stop on the “GSM Train Journey”, GSM Chicken Station continues to build on its vision of “Creating Infinite Possibilities.”

Looking ahead, GSM Chicken Station plans to integrate resources and collaborate with stakeholders to fuel Segamat’s economic growth and transform it into a thriving city.
