PERANTIS: Empowering Women’s Leadership in the Community with SHF

Social Hero Foundation (SHF) has been selected to be a part of PERANTIS (Program Perantis Kepimpinan Wanita) or the Women’s Leadership Apprenticeship Programme under the Malaysian Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (JPWKM).

PERANTIS is implemented through the Ministry’s Women’s Development Department (JPW) to help develop women’s leadership skills in 10 fields, namely, leadership, politics, economics, social, technology, legal, safety, welfare, education and health, through the guidance of successful female leaders. 1,247 female participants in Malaysia have benefited from this programme since its launch in 2024. In 2025, there will be 5,000 participants guided by 100 female leaders.

Under the PERANTIS initiative, the participants will receive knowledge, networking and mentorship opportunities to enhance their leadership and communication skills.

As part of the PERANTIS initiative, SHF developed a programme consisting of 3 phases to help train and develop the female committee members of the KRT (Kawasan Rumah Tetangga) Rumah Pangsa Larkin in Johor Bahru. 30 female members, ages ranging from 30 to 68 years old, were selected to receive training conducted by SHF’s Farrah Baptist and Sheila Grewal in areas such as leadership, conflict management, communication, personal branding, computer skills and IT.

The training programme will enhance their capabilities to help improve the social-economic well-being of the more than 5,000 residents at the Larkin Flats more effectively.

The first phase on 30 November 2025 was attended by the Director of the Johor Women’s Development Department (JPW) Izlin Binti Idris.

SHF Trustee Datuk Seri Teo Shiok Fu JP who attended the second phase on 7 December 2025 expressed his gratitude that SHF was selected to be a part of this meaningful programme to empower, train and develop more female leaders to help the community, country and contribute to nation-building. Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the goal was to achieve 30% of women as decision makers in the country. He was also happy to see the enthusiasm and cohesive team spirit shown by the KRT Rumah Pangsa Larkin committee members during their training session.

The third and final phase will be on 13-14 December, followed by a 3-month mentoring period from SHF’s Farrah and Sheila.

As a non-profit foundation established in 2019 under the Trustee (Incorporation) Act 1952 under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia, SHF aims to render effective help to the needy and underprivileged communities in Johor, promote national unity among all the races and promote awareness for the environment and sustainability.
