Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal visits IRDA to discuss the mission and vision of the state’s development
8 days after his appointment as the Menteri Besar of Johor, Dr Sahruddin Jamal made his first visit to Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) office as the new Co-Chairman of IRDA.
Dr Sahruddin announced that Iskandar Malaysia had recorded committed investments of RM7.7 billion in the Q1 of 2019, meaning the total cumulative committed investments from 2006 until 31st March 2019 to RM293 billion, where 57% of it or RM166 billion, represent investments that have been realised.
“This reflects continuous investor confidence in Iskandar Malaysia, and the state of Johor, as it grows to be a Strong and Sustainable Metropolis of international standing. This is also evident by the many visits to Iskandar Malaysia by various international parties,” explained Dr Sahruddin during his first official visit to IRDA as the Menteri Besar of Johor.
Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive of IRDA added, “Iskandar Malaysia continues to welcome all foreign investments that are aligned to its nine promoted economic sectors and those that provide spill-over effect to the economy, environment and social agendas of the region.”
The tourism sector were boosted with the soft opening of R&F Mall and Capri by Fraser Residence in the Johor Bahru city centre with X PARK in Sunway Iskandar and LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort’s Sea Life while Johor Premium Outlet’s (JPO) 3rd Phase launched in Q1 2019.
To date, local investors had contributed 62% to the total cumulative committed investments while the balance 38% was contributed by foreign investors. The top five countries with the highest cumulative committed investments from 2006 to March 2019 are China, Singapore, USA, Japan, and Spain. According to Datuk Ismail, for the rest of 2019 IRDA will put more focus on the logistics and tourism sectors.
