The drone industry continues to grow rapidly in Malaysia, with an expected growth of RM12.13 billion or 4.3% of the global market share this year. Recognising this, Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) as the owner of Drone and Robotics Zone (DRZ) Iskandar will organise the IIB Drone Community Day on Saturday, 13th May 2023, at Educity Complex 1, Educity Iskandar.

The IIB Drone Community Day offers a range of drone-related activities, including drone knowledge sharing and career talks with prominent speakers from the drone sector discussing current components and development of drone technology, exhibitions, and demonstrations on the latest innovation and technologies. In addition, visitors can enjoy various activities such as 3D colouring, assembling drones, drone explorace, and Legoland Eduplay Express Bus, which promotes a learning experience outside of the classroom with Legoland. In conjunction with the IIB Drone Community Day, IIB will host the second leg of the Malaysia Drone League (MDL), which his jointly supported by the National Sports Institute (ISN) and the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) with participants from Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei.

Drone activity for juniors

According to Dato’ Idzham Hashim, President and Chief Executive Officer of IIB, “As the host of the largest Drone Test Site (DTS) in Southeast Asia and located in Medini Iskandar, IIB’s strategic vision to create a dynamic drone and robotics ecosystem in Iskandar Puteri is taking root. IIB’s positioning as the region’s key growth engine, technology leader, and talent hub for Malaysia and the wider APAC region has resulted in 9 out of the 25 drone and robotics companies being approved in various sandbox programs based here n Medini. The community day is part of IIB’s efforts to support those companies and promote talent development in emerging technology for students and adults alike.

“Following the success of IIB’s Junior Puteri Junior Drone Pilot Programme (IPJDP) which trained 74 junior drone pilots from 7 to 12 years old, the IIB Drone Community Day is not just about showcasing the latest drone technologies and industry opportunities but also for the local community to learn and develop their skills in this exciting industry. We believe that this event will inspire young people to pursue careers in the drone industry and contribute to the growth of the ecosystem,” added Idzham.
